Get Amongst 'Em

I talked with a husband/wife team about their business and what they could do to promote it. The young lady got to the heart of the matter when she said, "I have to get out of my office and reach out to people."

You need to make a habit of getting out, getting "amongst 'em" every day. It’s also called schmoozing. Personal, face-to-face contact will generate business. Maybe it won’t happen today or tomorrow, but over the long haul it will bring business to your door. It needs to be done if you want to do something with your business other than pound nails.

One of the problems with working on jobs is that it limits your contacts with others. Working on jobs is a good way to feed your family today, but for the long run, you are far better off subcontracting out the work while you get out and press the flesh. You need to be in front of people. If they know you, they’ll be more apt to buy from you.

Amen. It doesn't happen over night but it is like a snowball. Once it gets rolling it only gets larger as it goes. People buy from those they know and trust. You can never know too many people.
