You’ve read my blurbs encouraging you to stay focused on your education. The more you know, the better you will become at running your construction-related business.

I spent last weekend in a small town in Oregon, at a rifle range way up in the hills. I took a certification class to become a Range Safety Officer. The class was taught by two certified instructors for the NRA. They love to teach and want to promote safe hunting and shooting events.

The two 8 hour days were long and we covered a ton of materials and firearms. We learned how to recognize different types and kinds of firearm actions, the quirks of each, the quirks of many types of firearms and how to run a firing line at a rifle or pistol range. We learned how to deal with emergencies and we learned the law as it applies to the use of firearms by the public.

The certification will help me as a certified instructor for the Washington State Hunter Education Program. Now, we will always have an Range Safety Officer available when it is time to take our students to the range for instruction and testing on the rifles and shotguns they are learning to use. Most of my students in our hunter education classes are 10 to 16 years of age.

It was a joy for me to learn something besides business. When we were done, we took a 50-question test and a couple of us scored 100 on that test. It was not easy but I felt a real accomplishment with my score. I can still pay attention in class. That was good news at my age.

Congratulations, Michael. We need more people who are willing to teach that guns, themselves, are not bad. Thank you for teaching the youth of your area the proper handling of fireams. I appreciate it a bunch.

Damn, what a surprise since you are over the hill. (-: I guess there is still help for another over the hill guy.
