In a recent note from Brian Tracy, he quoted a fellow by the name of Robert Ringer. Ringer said, “The future belongs to those who possess certain knowledge.”
The question is, what certain knowledge is needed? For construction business owners, is knowing how to build a job important? Absolutely, we need to know how to put the parts together to do the job our clients want done. No question on that one.
The problem is, too many contractors stop there. They don’t keep building their knowledge base beyond building the job. Of all construction-related business failures, less than 2% fail because of production problems. Most fail for financial reasons, primarily because they don’t charge enough for their work. They also fail because they either improperly use Additional Work Orders (Change Work Orders), or they don’t use them at all.
That’s why I wrote the book, “Markup & Profit; A Contractor’s Guide“. If you or someone you care about owns a construction-related business, you need to read it.
